On July 11, a COSCO SHIPPING vessel rescued a sinking fishing boat and saved 32 fishermen in Nasha waters. The rescue, which occurred on the Maritime Day of China, again reflected the navigational spirit of pulling together in times of trouble.
At 6 a.m., a fishing boat of Qionghai, Hainan Province carrying more than 30 people was in danger because of the big waves on its return voyage in Nasha waters. It was reported that the boat was out of contact after giving an alarm and the Beidou system signal was lost, which implied a high possibility of sinking. Upon receiving the alarm, the Department of Emergency Management of Hainan Province and Hainan Maritime Safety Administration rapidly started rescue operations. Sansha Maritime Safety Administration issued a navigation warning and asked passing merchant ships to join the rescue.
Upon receiving the rescue notice, the General Duty Office of COSCO SHIPPING immediately dispatched a vessel near the accident site to join the rescue.
At 8:25 a.m., M.V. Yuan Yang Hu (owned by COSCO SHIPPING Energy Transportation Co., Ltd.), which was nearest to the fishing boat, received the instructions and immediately changed its direction to rescue the boat.
At 11:10 a.m., M.V. Yuan Yang Hu arrived at the accident site and found a fishing boat carrying fishermen in distress.
At 2 p.m., with the concerted efforts of the crew, all the 32 fishermen were saved.
So far, the fishermen have been properly settled on M.V. Yuan Yang Hu before being handed over to a South China Sea salvage vessel.
Food is served to fishermen onboard.
The captain of the fishing boat contacts with his family members.
The rescue process was covered by People's Daily and CCTV.
