From June 12 to 13, Mr. Wan Min, Director of the Board, President, and Deputy Party Secretary of COSCO SHIPPING, led a delegation to Lhasa to attend the event themed “Aid Provided by Centrally Administered SOEs in Enriching Tibetan People and Tibet”. This event was co-hosted by the People’s Government of the Tibet Autonomous Region and the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) of the State Council.
During the event, Mr. Wan Min visited the “Exhibition about Centrally Administrated SOEs in Tibet” and viewed the display board showcasing COSCO SHIPPING’s achievements in aiding Tibet. At the Qamdo Symposium on Aid Provided by Centrally Administered SOEs in Enriching Tibetan People and Tibet, Mr. Wan reviewed the achievements the Group had made in providing partner assistance to Tibet and boosting the region’s industrial development, and proposed to strengthen exchanges with the locals, deepen collaboration with local companies, improve systems and mechanisms, and mobilize all members in the Group to help with the construction of Tibet and share a happy life with local people. Mr. Wan and leaders of the Tibet autonomous region and SASAC witnessed the signing of agreements between COSCO SHIPPING and the Tibet Autonomous Region, including the “Strategic Cooperation Agreement on the Involvement of Centrally Administrated State-owned Enterprises in the Reform and Development of State-owned Enterprises in Tibet”, and “Cooperation Agreement on Partner Assistance Provided by Centrally Administrated State-owned Enterprises to Tibet during the 13th Five-Year Plan Period”. Mr. Han Jun, Assistant to the President of COSCO SHIPPING and President of COSCO SHIPPING Logistics signed the agreements on behalf of the Group. During the event, Mr. Wan also held talks with Mr. Wang Haizhou, Vice Chairman of the People’s Government of the Tibet Autonomous Region and top leaders from the SASAC of Tibet.
After his trip to Lhasa, Mr. Wan led the delegation to Qamdo for inspecting the aid to Tibet. They visited cadres sent to support Tibet, held talks with leadership of Qamdo City, Lhorong County and Riwoqê County. During their talks, Mr. Wan listened to a report on the aid received by Qamdo, concluded with the city the “Aid-Tibet Project Donation Agreement 2017” and confirmed new aid projects worth RMB 2 million for Lhorong County and Riwoqê County in 2017. Moreover, Secretary of the CPC Qamdo Municipal Committee Abu gave an overview of the aid Qamdo had received and its socioeconomic development in recent years, and extended his sincere gratitude to COSCO SHIPPING for its assistance over the past 15 years. Mr. Zhang Shanmin, Chairman of Trade Union of COSCO SHIPPING, and relevant staff from the Group’s Executive Division, Trade Union, and COSCO SHIPPING Charity Foundation joined the inspection.
The Group started to provide partner assistance to Lhorong County, Qamdo as early as 2002. Over the past 15 years, it has sent a total of 18 cadres in nine groups to Tibet, invested up to RMB 161 million, and carried out more than 90 projects involving education, public facilities, new countryside construction, healthcare improvement, and poverty relief, making positive contributions to the steady economic growth and long-term stability of the local area. Following the adjustment to the aid to Tibet made by the National Development and Reform Commission and the Organization Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, the Group adds Riwoqê County to its aid list from 2017.
